This weeks Field Test Friday we had the pleasure of visiting with Perry Dickson, the owner of Slim & Knobby’s bike shop in Heber, Utah. Perry and his crew just wrapped up an amazing renovation of a new space on Main Street in Heber and prepping for their grand opening event which takes place all day today into the evening.

The new Slim & Knobby’s location is definitely not your typical bike shop. Curated and clean with wall art, vintage bicycles, books and more. An experiential bike shop to say the least. Expert mechanics and sales staff on-hand to offer genuine advice on a bike purchase or repair for all types, from youth and family to the ultra-competitive cyclist. The vibe at Slim & Knobby’s is mellow, friendly and authentic.

Upon arrival, your attention is immediately drawn to an amazing hand painted mural that spans the entire length of the shop. The mural is the work of Skye Walker, a Cardiff, CA based artist who Perry met via social media. Skye found a break in his travel schedule to travel to Utah to complete the mural for Dickson. More of Skye’s work can be seen on Instagram at @skyewalker_art

Moving through the shop, one can find bikes and accessories from the worlds best brands such as Specialized, Rocky Mountain, Salsa and more. Bikes, apparel, shoes, protective gear, eyewear are carefully merchandised in a very thoughtful way, almost with a boutique feel versus a grungy bike shop, which was definitely Perry’s vision.

The mechanic area is front and center, well organized and equipped with the latest tools to ensure high end repairs on your rig. Speaking of the Slim & Knobby’s mechanics, we are proud to say they trust their digits to Ventureborn silicone rings when wrenching on bikes and working in the shop area where traditional wedding bands and metal rings simply don’t work from a safety standpoint.

As mentioned above, today is the grand opening of the new Slim & Knobby’s location. If you are local to Utah, make sure to swing into the store and say hello to the crew. There will be free Rocky Mountain bike demos from 4:00pm to 8:00pm today and 9:00am to 7:00pm tomorrow. Check out a RM bike for two hours and test them on the trail of your choice. Pretty sweet deal.

Get in there and support local, family owned businesses. You can follow them on Instagram at @slimandknobbys or visit the shop in person at 84 S. Main Street in Heber, Utah. Big thanks to Perry and crew for letting us drop by today and checking out the amazing new shop.

Let’s Ride!
